History of our Club:
On May 1, 1976, thirteen women met in the home of Carolyn Gary for the organizational meeting of a daytime Business and Professional Women’s Organization. The new club was formed from the Wichita Falls Club which met in the evening. It was known as the “noon time” BPW Club and was given the name of Metropolitan Business and Professional Women. New officers were elected on June 9, 1976, from a total of 18 charter members.
Our Charter President was Carolyn Gary. The members elected to meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at the Wichita Club from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. All these preliminary decisions led up to the moment when Metropolitan officially received its charter from State BPW officials in an impressive charter ceremony and officer installation banquet on Friday evening, September 22, 1976!
In July 2009 our state organization voted to officially change its name to Texas Business Women.
Over the years we may have changed our name, meeting day, and time, but the overall focus of our organization remains the same. We are still in the business of “Women Helping Women.”
